1. Financial advisor

National average salary: $58,794 per year

Primary duties:

Financial advisors help people manage their finances and reach financial goals.

They are responsible for evaluating clients’ financial positions using data and developing financial plans, among other things.

Requirements:

Financial advisors need a bachelor’s degree in finance or a related discipline. They must register with the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA).

2. Registered nurse

National average salary: $79,577 per year

Primary duties:

Registered nurses (RN) provide medical care to patients. They educate the public on programmes and offer consultation services related to nursing practices. They assist doctors with patient care duties.

Requirements:

Registered nurses must complete a university degree, college, or other nursing programs. They must register with the nursing regulatory body in their province or territory. Registered nurses need a master’s or doctoral degree to pursue a specialisation in their field.

3. Customer service representative

National average salary: $18.27 per hour

Primary duties:

Customer service representatives communicate with customers online or over the phone to handle complaints, take orders, or answer questions. They are vital to maintaining customer satisfaction and liaising with logistics and sales departments to take orders or organise deliveries. The increase in online and over-the-phone shopping, along with deliveries and logistics, means customer service representatives are likely to be in high demand

Requirements:

Customer service representatives need a bachelor’s degree in administration, psychology or related courses. They can also acquire professional programmes as added knowledge.

Other high-paying skill workers in Canada are software engineers, veterinary doctors, medical technologists, occupational therapists, and digital marketers among others.

Unskilled workers

4. Pipefitter/plumber

National average salary: $73,581 per year

Primary duties:

Pipefitters also known as plumbers handle pipes that carry gasses and high-pressure fluids. They use specialised techniques to install, bend, and join pipes in functional buildings.

Their responsibilities include reading and interpreting drawings, blueprints, and specifications, selecting required pipe sizes and types and cut openings for pipes using power or hand tools or machines.

Requirements:

Pipefitters need a high school diploma to work. They must also complete an apprenticeship or obtain at least five years of work experience in pipefitting.

5. Welder

National average salary: $26.82 per year

Primary duties:

Welders are professional tradespeople who use heat to join different metals together to build or repair various products, goods, or structures. They are key to maintaining the structural integrity of items made of metal, such as housing, commercial structures, automobiles, bridges, ships, or aircraft. Welders may even specialize in particular fields, such as underwater welding. With the continuing shortage of tradespeople, welders will likely remain in high demand.

Requirements:

Welders need a high school diploma to specialise. They must also complete an apprenticeship or obtain at least five years of work experience in welding or other iron works.

6. Truck driver

National average salary: $25.32 per hour

Primary duties:

Truck drivers pilot large vehicles in order to deliver goods, often across long distances. They are an essential part of logistics operations and a key element in supply chains. Since an increasing number of customers are ordering their goods online, there is more movement of products across the country than ever before. This is likely to be the case, making truck driving a high-demand job for the year

Requirements:

Truck drivers must have completed their secondary school as a usual requirement. On-the-job-training is provided. Completion of an accredited driver training course of up to three months duration, through a vocational school or community college, may be required. A Class 3 or D licence is required to drive straight-body trucks.

Other unskilled workers demanded highly in Canada include labourers, farm workers, janitors, bartenders and sales attendants among others.
