The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Kaduna has dismissed the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representatives candidate, Gideon Gwani, who sought to invalidate the election victory of his Labour Party (LP) counterpart, Donatus Mathew, in the Kaura Federal Constituency.
Donatus, a former Okada rider, won the House of Representatives election conducted on February 25th, 2023, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Gwani, who was the Minority Whip at the 9th Assembly in the House of Representatives, filed the petition at the tribunal after being dissatisfied with the election outcome.

However, the three-man panel of the tribunal, led by Justice F.A. Fiberesima, dismissed the case, awarding N1.6 million in damages to Donatus.
The tribunal ruled that Gwani’s prayers lacked merit as he could not determine the party that should sponsor its candidate, and interfering in political party affairs in this matter would not be appropriate.
