Eze Igbo Ghana, HRM Dr Ihenetu, Celebrates Former President Obasanjo at 87
The Eze Ndigbo Ghana, Eze Dr. Chukwudi Ihenetu, has congratulated former president of Nigeria, His Excellency Olusegun Obasanjo as he celebrates his 87th birthday.

Chief Obasanjo was president of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007. He oversaw Nigeria’s first democratic handover of power and administrative reforms that accelerated economic growth.

The former president also played a vital role in the regeneration and repositioning of the African Union, including helping to establish the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) and the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), designed to promote democracy and good governance.

In a special congratulatry, message from the revered Obiukwu Obieziokwu palace in Ghana, the Umuduruoha Amigbo Nwagele Imo state-born HRM Ihenetu, described Chief Obasanjo as a great statesman who channelled all his energy into building modern Nigeria.

While describing the former president as diplomat of repute, HRM Ihenetu, Global Peace Ambassador and Assistant Publicity Secretary Ndieze Ndigbo in the Diaspora, quoting from Concordia online journal said:

“Chief Obasanjo has consistently supported the deepening and widening of regional cooperation through the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the Co-prosperity Alliance Zone incorporating Benin, Ghana, Nigeria and Togo. He has served as chairman of the Group of 77, chairman of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, and chairman of the NEPAD Heads of State and Government Implementation Committee.

“He has also been involved in international mediation efforts in Angola, Burundi, Namibia, Mozambique, and South Africa. In 2008, the then United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, appointed Mr Obasanjo as his Special Envoy to the Great Lakes region, where he has played an integral part in mediation efforts in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.

“As you celebrate today, on behalf of Ndigbo in Ghana, I felicitate with you and wish you more prosperous years in good health.” he concludes.
