PROFILE AND ACHIEVEMENTS
Benjamin Okezie Kalu is an all-time leader, an astute lawyer and businessman par excellence.
At 23 he was a student representative in the University of Calabar, at 29 he was the National chapter Chairman of PDP in diaspora with six provincial branches under his office. At 31 he was the youngest LGA chairman of Bende, the oldest and largest undivided LGA in Nigeria with 99 autonomous communities.
At 34 he was a member of the Abia State Government Executive cabinet as the Senior Special Adviser to the Executive Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs; and at 35, the Senior Special adviser to the Executive Governor on Millennium development goals and international relations
He is currently the Member representing Bende Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives. He occupies the seat of the Chairman, House Committee on media and Public Affairs, subsequently as a result of his vocal prowess doubles as the Spokesperson of the House. With his innovation and leadership position as House Committee On Media and Publicity Affairs, he Initiated The Green Chamber Magazine. Where the achievemens and legacies of the 9th House Of Representatives is periodically published.
In the past two years, his pragmatism and innovative approach towards legislative activities through bills and motions has ranked him as one of the Top 10 House of Rep members by bill sponsorship.
He has also attracted various projects to his constituency spanning from road rehabilitation and construction, rehabilitation of schools and medical centres, distribution of educational material and construction of solar powered boreholes.
He serves as a member of the National Executive council of the All-Progressive Congress (APC).
His NGO, Benjamin Kalu Foundation is founded on the mission to build the communities that build the nation and has executed several projects to help indigents and less privileged ones in rural Nigeria, through this organization he has funded educational scholarships for children, Agricultural training, entrepreneurship and empowerment programs for women and youths.
He is committed to representing the good people of Bende and bringing to them the dividends of democracy. As a result of his leadership and philanthropy to the Bende people, he was conferred on withthe prestigious title ‘UTABIRI BENDE’.
He is married to one wife and they are blessed with 5 children.

True leadership is one that breeds trust and accountability to its benefits and as Warren Bennis once wrote ‘Leadership is the capacity to transform vision to reality’.
Being a visionary leader, Hon. Ben has been able to gradually transform the vision which he is passionate about for Bende into reality. He has shone the light and given the constituency a new definition of leadership and governance far from what has been experienced since the 4th republic.
June 11, 2021, marked the second year in office of the Representative of Bende Federal Constituency who is also the Spokesperson of the House of Representatives. A feat he achieved regardless of being a first-time legislator in the house.
Despite the challenges and judicial distractions, Rep. Benjamin Kalu has delivered flawlessly the promises he made to the people of Bende Federal Constituency, Abia State.
He has ensured that he is constantly living on the mantra of Leadership by Service, this he has consistently proven in the manner for which he represents the people.
Historically, he has recorded the highest number of projects a legislator has achieved in the Bende Federal Constituency, with over 45 projects attracted. He has successfully put smiles on the faces of indigenes both young and old, home and abroad through these projects in the various communities.

- Donation of 27 motorbikes and 13 tricycles (Keke Napep) to various wards in Bende to curb insecurity and improve transportation in Bende.
- Solar-powered borehole drilling commenced in Ovum Ugwu, Nkpa, and 2 other communities in Bende North and Bende South.
- Secured approval to build a solar farm to house a mini-grid for energy supply in Bende.The facility will provide light for 25 years non-stop, away from the national grid.
