As part of efforts aimed at addressing the lingering high incidence of unemployment, especially borne from the challenges of insurgent activities, which have threatened farming and other sources of livelihood in the Northeast Zone in over the past one decade, Member representing Gombi/Hong Federal Constituency,Rt. Hon.( Dr.) Yusuf Buba Yakub, on Monday,flagged off this year’s empowerment programme for sixty selected women and youths from Gombi/ Hong Federal Constituency.

Those selected for the present training are expected to acquire proficiency in sewing, furniture-making and other allied skills at the end of a six- month in-training tutelage under some carefully selected professional instructors at the Captain Buba Industrial Village,Faci, Adamawa State.

Speaking at the event,Monday,Co- ordinators of the programme, Alhaji Adamu Kwacha and Comrade Dauda Kushu, emphasised the importance of skills to the need for self-reliance in pursuit of daily survival in society. They enjoined participants at the training to maintain discipline and be focused on whatever would be taught as part of the curriculum of the 6- month programme ,which will end with the donation of starter packs,work tools,kits and cash by the lawmaker representing the area.
Earlier,while welcoming those who were part of the programme,other Party leaders and former Political appointees,who spoke at the event, commended the vision of Rt.Hon.Buba for aiming to teach the people how to fish instead of just giving them fish by the establishment of the Captain Buba Industrial Village,which in the last six years has trained and graduated over 40,000 individuals in Gas Welding,ICT,Bead and Bag-making,Tye and Dye,Sewing,including woodwork and in other life- sustaining skills.
The present programme will run through July to December this year.
