As the Appeal Court sitting in Lagos on Wednesday affirmed the election of Bassey Otu as the governor of Cross River State.

Amb. Otu Abasi in a congratulatory message released to journalists in Abuja on thursday, said the judgement delivered by the court of appeal affirms that the rule of law is meant to protect the will of the people in a free and fair electioneering process.
The Appeal Court decision stood for the vital proposition that the rule of law serves to protect the sovereign will of the people when expressed in free and honest elections,” he said.
“Congratulations to Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu for the Court of Appeal judgment affirming his overwhelming victory in the governorship election in the state.
“By this judgement, the appellate court clearly shows that Governor Bassey Otu was the candidates who the people of cross River people chose to pilot their affairs for the next four years.
The confidence the people repose in the Otu’s administration has been well earned and should be wholly respected.

He stated that the saying that the judiciary is the last hope of the common man is not mere saying as the judgement of both the tribunal and appellate court confirmed the wish, hope and desire of the people of Cross River State for continuous development of the state as expressed through their votes to put Governor Bassey Otu in office for development and progress of the state.
“It is time to now place partisan politics on the shelf for the moment so that these former political contestants can join hands as much as possible for the good and development of cross River State.
“Once again, i rejoice the teeming voters in cross River and, indeed, the good people of the state over this court victory.”
He also urged the opposition candidates to support the governor to work for the development of state.
Otu was declared winner of the governorship poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, having polled a total of 258,619 votes winning in 15 of the 18 local governments of the state, to defeat his closest rival, Senator Sandy Onor of the PDP, who polled 179,636 votes.
