Nigerian Woman Currently In Danger In Iraq, May Be Killed In November As Family Calls For Help

The life of a Nigerian woman, Dose Rebecca Oluwaseunfunmi, is currently in danger in Iraq, after sources said she was sentenced to death by the country’s government and will be killed in November if the Nigerian government does not take an action.

According report by SaharaReporters, our correspondent learnt that Oluwaseunfunmi travelled to Iraq on May 6, 2023, in search of “greener pastures” before she got fed up in the Middle-East country.

SaharaReporters reported that trouble started when Oluwaseunfunmi out of frustration attempted to take her own life.

Although she was rescued, the Iraq authorities found her guilty of crime and sentenced her to death by being beaten for attempting a suicide.

A source who revealed the developments to SaharaReporters explained that she went to Iraq in a quest of finding a better life since here in Nigeria she seemed not to have any hope.

“But unfortunately, she’s in a delicate situation right now in Iraq because she attempted to take her own life and was saved but has been sentenced to be beaten to death next month for attempting suicide.”is

The source, however, pleaded with the President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government for an urgent intervention to save her.

According to the source, she was working with “Dr. Zainab Attar (Dentist) – Karadah – 0 tips”.

When SaharaReporters contacted the Head of Media, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abdurrahmaan Balogun Arab on the development, he said that the commission wasn’t aware of the incident.

Balogun stated in a text message that “we are not aware of it. Can a family member or anyone with details send petition to admin@nidcom.gov.ng”.
