The dust is not settling and may escalate in the days agead following last week announcement of a Lawyer, Ola Olukoyede as the new Chairman of the EFCC by President Tinubu’s administration.
The EFCC has about 17 Commands accross the Country which are effectively maned by zonal commanders from the rank of Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE), all at grade level 15 and above. The zonal commanders and deputy zonal commanders are all members of the pioneer course 1 of the EFCC who were trained by the Nigerian police. Also trained by the police were the course 2 and 3 of the EFCC who are now heading the section accross all EFCC Commands.
Apart from from the EFCC Superintendent and Inspectorate Course 1 to 6 who were trained by both the police and EFCC , Course 7 to 12 were trained by the military especially the Detective Inspectors and Detective Assistants who have taken over the duties of mobile police men initially seconded to the Commission.
Since the return of all mobile police men, the DIs and DAs have taken firm charge of the defence of the EFCC, its facilities personnel and operations.
If the rumour making the round is anything to go by, these set of well trained and regimented armed officers who all know the history of the EFCC and their career progression, are already agitating against any civilian head that is not provided for in the EFCC Establishment Acts. They have vowed to defend only a law enforcement Agency EFCC with regimented Command structure as they have been recruited, trained and deployed to do.
Serious agitations and protests are already brewing among the rank and files accros the Commands. The usual smart work environment has disappeared in the EFCC since the announcement of a Lawyer who has never be enlisted into any of the security or law enforcement Agency in Nigeria.

The agitations are growing as the fate of the Commission, its command structure, operations and operatives hang in the balance.
To avoid this urgly and scary development, the Federal Govt may wish to review or reconsider it earlier announcement for want of qualification
