The recent inauguration of the Governorship Campaign Council by the Imo State PDP has ignited confusion within the ranks of the incumbent, Hope Uzodinma, and his All Progressive Congress (APC) party. The ceremony, held at the party’s state Secretariat in Owerri, appointed opposition Spokesperson, Hon Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere Ikeagwuonu, as Director General. Additionally, Hon Ugonna Ozurigbo, Hon Ngozi Ogbu, and Hon Mike Ihenaetu were designated as Deputy Directors for Orlu, Okigwe, and Owerri zones, respectively, with Prince Marshall Okafor Anyanwu assuming the role of Council Secretary.
The Council’s mandate to rescue the state from what is termed a detrimental APC administration and reintegrate neglected Imo citizens into a framework of responsible leadership, highlighting the growing unrest and dissatisfaction. Governor Uzodinma’s fear of electoral defeat and the potential for public backlash following his tenure underscores the anxiety he and the APC are experiencing. The state’s tranquility and welcoming spirit have been eroded since the incumbents took office in 2020, further fueling the demand for a change in leadership.

The PDP Campaign Council draws support from various quarters, including the Rescue Mission led by Senator Owelle Rochas Okorocha, the Destiny Organization under Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, and a prominent political structure headed by Capt. Emmanuel Iheanacho. These groups’ participation underscores the widespread sentiment for change. The PDP’s focus remains on restoring the state’s integrity, reviving shattered hopes, rejuvenating sectors in decline, bolstering security, honoring human dignity, and rejuvenating the ailing state economy. In stark contrast, Uzodinma’s approach appears more focused on personal enrichment, suppressing dissent, and maintaining control.
