Breaking: Gunmen Burn Anambra Council Secretariat, Kill Security Guards, Soludo Visits

One of the security guards attached to the secretariat of Nnewi South Local Government Area in Ukpor, Anambra State has been killed by gunmen on Thursday.

It was learnt that the gunmen also razed the secretariat, which has generated tension and fear in the area.

A Facebook user, Ugochukwu Nduaguba, believed to be resident in the area, said the buildings in the secretariat were on fire.

“It’s terrible. All the buildings are on fire. I pray God to take control,” Mr Nduagha said.

Anambra Police Command spokesman, Ikenga Tochukwu, who confirmed the incident, said he had not ascertained the number of casualties yet.

Ikenga said operatives had been deployed to the area while men of the State Fire Service were already on the ground to put out the fire.

Tochukwu, who described the incident as an arson attack, said the state police commissioner had visited the scene to assess the situation.

Governor Soludo Visits Nnewi South Local Government Headquarters, Ukpor.

Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo has visited Nnewi South Local Government Headquarters, Ukpor to access the scene following an alleged attack by unknown gunmen last night .

The Governor inspected the buildings set ablaze by the hoodlums which included the works department, education building, traditional council office, public complainant commission office and property department office.

The Governor in his speech described the incident as a very sad moment and emphasized that the security agencies will get to the bottom of the situation.

The Governor regretted that the common man will be at the receiving end as the money that should be used to provide the basic infrastructures should now be used for rebuilding.

He encouraged Ndi Anambra to be strong as no amount of arson and bloodletting will prevail over the spirit of Ndi Anambra.

Maintaining that Anambra respects the sanctity of life and property, the governor maintained that no circumstance should result to such lawlessness and bloodletting.

Governor Soludo reiterated his resolve to restore law and order in Anambra for the sake of the people.
