Gunmen have opened fire on traditional rulers during a meeting at Njaba local government area in Imo State.
At least five traditional rulers have been reportedly killed during an attack by gunmen at Nnenasa community Headquarters of Njaba local government area of Imo State, Hotmedia.ng has learnt.
Details of the attack remain sketchy but at least five traditional rulers are believed to have died during the attack with several others wounded.
According to sources, the traditional rulers from the area numbering over 20 were in a meeting at the local government headquarters in the community when gunmen invaded the the place, interrupted the meeting with sporadic gunshots and killed at least five traditional rulers on the spot.
Those who sustained heavy gunshots injuries have been rushed to nearby hospital for treatment.
According to the source who does not want his name name mentioned stated “things are really getting out of hand in Imo State, imagine killing our revered traditional rulers like they are nothing, something must has to be done as quickly as possible to bring back peace and security in every part of Imo State and in the South East region “
When contacted, the Imo state police public relations officer, Mike Abatam, he confirmed the attacks and killing of the traditional rulers in Njaba while having a meeting, he also said was trying to get the full details of the incident.
Imo State is located in the southeast region of Nigeria.
