Research shows that people tend to judge you even before you have an opportunity to speak. This decision is greatly informed by the saying : dress the way you want to be addressed. Gone are days when one’s value was determined only by one’s products or services  Nowadays personal branding is becoming essential to entrepreneurial and career success, hence the need to incorporate personal style and dress ethics into our daily routine. This holds great significance when considering the fact that we actually sell ourselves before we sell whatever goods, services or ideas to the intended consumers.

Going by the above, one can gain competitive leverage by using one’s appearance, presentation unique voice and body language as an expression of one’s real image and personality. Your style is supposed to be an expression or extension of your personality. So you need to win people over with your personality by making a lasting first impression.

 

DRESSING FOR WORK

Your goal to getting dressed for work is to project a professional competent image regardless of your employment level or career path. The style, colour, length and fit of your fashion choices will speak volumes about your fashion choices will speak volumes about your ability to do your job. If you are concerned about your careers, you will be more concerned with looking professional than looking cute or trendy. You just have to know how to be professionally trendy without crossing the line. The more distracting a piece of clothing or jewelry is, the less appropriate it is for office wear

Style choices are made considering many factors such as: body type, personal preference etc. but it is important to be versatile in your choices. Create workable guidelines for yourself and build a fashion database. Assess the natural of your profession. Observe what your boss wears and boss’s boss for clues to get-ahead. And if you have an interview or a meeting with prospective employers/clients corporate environment.

One of the best clues to company dress codes is what the highest level people in your organisation wear or better still wear what reflects the company’s brand. That would serve as a perfect guideline for your wardrobe choices . If you don’t have reliable female executives to emulate, then trade on what the men are wearing. If they wear suits and ties every day, your best bet is to use paintsuits and skirt suits : the most formal business looks.

For a corporate casual look, a dressy pant and a blouse, sleek Jersey knits and skirt with tops are all examples of a corporate, casual outlook. Denim, T. Shirts are only acceptable in the most casual of work places.
