The Nigerian government has announced a new initiative that will help Nigerian children
– Under the new initiative, children who are not in school will be given basic education
– The programmed will target delivering a limited scope of subjects to children with limited access
In his efforts to tackle children out of school, President Muhammadu Buhari announced an Alternate School Programme (ASP) as a special education initiative across the country.
Hotmedia.ng reports that the president said the implementation of the programme will be delivering a limited scope of subjects such as Mathematics, English Language, Basic Sciences and Social Studies to kids who have limited access.
This was disclosed on Wednesday, February 3, via his verified Twitter handle @MBuhari, adding that the move was aimed at ensuring no Nigerian child is left behind in terms of appropriate basic education.

This development is coming as the federal government said it would commence the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP), in February 2021, across the country including the Nigerian capital, Abuja.
In its initial implementation the ASP will be looking at how we can deliver a limited scope of subjects – Mathematics, English Language, Basic Sciences and Social Studies – to these children. Gradually we will scale it up to ensure the acquisition of relevant technical skills.

The president also approved the expansion of the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Program (GEEP).

Buhari approves recruitment of 30,000 agric graduates
In a related development, the federal government has given approval to the National Agricultural and Land Development Agency (NALDA) to permanently employ some 30,000 agricultural and other science graduates to handle soil test and other responsibilities for the agency.
This was disclosed by NALDA’s executive secretary, Paul Ikonne, on Monday, January 25, while briefing journalists on the activities of the agency in Abuja.
He explained that recruited graduates will be trained on how to collect soil samples, conduct soil test, and also render extension services to farmers.
