Breaking: INEC Releases List Of Senatorial Candidate, Disqualifies Akpabio, Lawan, Umahi From Senate Race In 2023

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has disqualified Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, Senator Dr Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan and Governor David Nweze Umahi from contesting Senatorial Elections in their respective Senatorial Districts.

This came after the National leadership of All Progressives Congress (APC), forwarded their names to INEC whereas Akpabio, Lawan and Umahi never took part or purchased nomination forms to contest Senatorial Primaries, but the Chairman of the party Senator Abdullahi Adamu surreptitiously sent their names to INEC.

The acclaimed Senatorial candidates only bought forms worth N100million each and contest for Presidential Primaries which was well televised on Tv stations and online platforms.

This decision by the National Leadership of the party was against the law and extant provisions of the new Electoral Acts 2022.

Concerned citizens had protested and condemned in Strong terms such impunity carried out by the National Leadership of APC. Such acts would have serves as a tool for destruction of our democratic principles

The Independent National Electoral Commission has released the list and particulars of candidates vying for various positions at the federal level in the 2023 general elections.

Conspicuously missing were the names of Senate President Ahmad Lawan, former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, and Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi.

All had contested the presidential primaries of the All Progressives Congress but may have been hoping to reclaim the APC senatorial seats after failing to win the top seat.
