Russia- Ukraine war: Eze Ndigbo Ghana, HRM Ihenetu urges Nigeria Government To Gear-Up In Rescue Of Nigerians

As the war between Russia and Ukraine escalates with heavy casualtes on both sides, the Eze Ndigbo Ghana and the Publicity Secretary Association of Ndieze Ndigbo in the Diaspora, His Royal Majesty, Eze Dr Chukwudi Ihenetu has called on the Federal Government to quicken the process that would lead to the return of over 4000 Nigerians stranded in the country as a result of the war.

With the war in its 7th day, the social media and the international cable Tv streamed pictures of people fleeing Ukraine to neighbouring countries.

Stranded Nigerians in Ukraine

Following this development, the Federal government earmarked 8.5 million Dollars for the evacuation, while Peace and Max airlines were approved and saddled with the task of flying the Nigerians home.

In a statement made from his Obi Eziokwu palace in Ghana, HRM Dr Ihenetu wondered why Nigerians stranded in Poland and other neighbouring Eastern European countries are yet to be evacuated from war zone.

Equally, the Umuduruoha Amigbo Nwagele Imo state-born Royal Father in a strong term condemn alleged maltreatment of Nigerians at boder crossing between Ukraine and Poland. The Nigerians were allegedly told to wait untill the documents of the whites were processed first before it gets to their turn. “Such derogatory attitudes stand condemnable before man and God”, he said.

While condemning loss of lives and destruction of residential areas through shelling and bombing, HRM Dr Ihenetu appeals for restraint on the part of the two neighbouring countries.

Speaking in the same vain, the Royal father call on the international community to do all it can through the United Nations to bring the crises to an end.

While reminding the two waring nations and their allies that dialogue remains the best approach in conflict resolution, HRM Ihenetu said no amount of financial aid can bring back the lives lost so far in the war.
“I hearby call on both nations to respect sanctity of life, yield to dialogue and swiftly end the war before more lives and property are lost.”

While also commending the Federal government for successfully air lifting 596 Nigerians from Poland and Romania, the Royal father urges the Airlines and other stakeholders to close ranks and ensure that several Nigerians still stranded in Ukraine, are returned home safely
