Igbo Ekunie Calls For Urgent Government Action Over Violence And Insecurity In Igboland

Igbo Ekunie Initiative Condemns the rising end unprecedented Violence and Insecurity in Igboland, Calls for Urgent Government Action

Igbo Ekunie Initiative (IEI), an advocacy group of professionals both at home and in diaspora dedicated to promoting the welfare and security of Igbo people, is deeply alarmed by the escalating violence in Igboland, including increasing incidents of thuggery, armed robbery, and kidnapping. We call on the Southeast governments and local authorities to take decisive and immediate action to protect citizens and restore peace.

Over the past months, Igbo communities have endured a disturbing rise in violent crimes that threaten lives, destabilize communities, and undermine public confidence. Many citizens live in fear, while criminals operate with impunity, exploiting the lack of adequate security. Families have been torn apart by kidnappings, while lives and property are continuously threatened by armed gangs, kidnappers and robbers.

The insecurity in Igboland is a crisis that must not be ignored. We demand that the government takes immediate action to restore law and order. Our people deserve to live in peace and safety. It is the government’s duty to ensure this security, without which no society can thrive.

Igbo Ekunie Initiative calls on the relevant government agencies and security operatives to intensify efforts in combating the violence that has plagued Igboland. Specific actions are needed to increase policing, improve security infrastructure, and enforce existing laws rigorously. We urge states, local governments and town unions to collaborate with local vigilante securities, taking swift action to prevent further violence and restore peace.

As an organization committed to the advancement of Igbo welfare, IEI stands ready to work alongside the government and local leaders to create lasting solutions. We appeal to all citizens, community leaders, and organizations to join in this effort and demand security for our region.
