Edo Diaspora Group Warns President Tinubu, IGP Over Interference In Edo Election

A non-partisan group, Edo in Diaspora, based in Europe and America, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remain neutral and uphold the Constitution in the upcoming Edo State Governorship election on September 21st, 2024.

The group’s call is prompted by the constant harassment, intimidation, and unlawful arrest of opposition party members, who have been detained in Abuja on trumped-up charges. Despite Governor Godwin Obaseki’s appeals to the Commissioner of Police and Inspector General of Police, the situation remains unresolved.

“We have it on good authority that the elements within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State and president Tinubu has concluded plans to rigg the election with the active collaboration of the most violent election rigger in Nigeria and Minister of Federal capital territory, Mr. Nyesom Wike who has planted his blood related as the commissioner of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to supervise the conduct of the election”.

Edo People In The Diaspora Write United Nations, World Leaders, Warn Tinubu Against Election Rigging In Edo

The Diaspora group in a statement signed by its global leader, High Chief Musa Amedu said, “The new Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Mr. Nemi Edwin-Iwo, hails from Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State. So also, Dr. Anugbum Onuoha who is the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Edo State. Dr. Onuoha comes from Rivers State and has previously served as the Special Adviser on Lands and Survey to the former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike. These affiliations and backgrounds have raised concerns about potential biases and conflicts of interest”, he said.

The group blasts a chieftain of the APC, Blessing Agbomere, who is a close ally of former Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole who was spotted in a viral video addressing the press in police gear, with a retinue of thugs lining behind him. We have reliably gathered that the APC has purchased not less than 4000 police uniform for thugs who they plan to unleash on the people to cause crisis and stoke chaos during the election.

We call on the Nigeria Police Chief, as a matter of urgency, to order the transfer of the case of Esan West Local Government Chairman’s case, Hon. Collins Aigbogun back to Edo State for proper investigation who was framed up in an assault case he knew nothing about.

The group warns against fanning the flames of violence among contesting parties, which could lead to destruction of lives and property. They also caution President Tinubu against fulfilling his earlier threat to rig the election in favour of the APC, as captured in a viral video campaign stunt last year during his presidential election last year.

High Chief Musa Amedu, the group’s leader, emphasized that they have alerted the United Nations and world leaders to monitor the conduct of Edo State Governorship election and prevent President Tinubu’s interference to avoid potential mayhem.
