A borehole drilled for the people of Eziama Odume community, Awgu local government area of Enugu State has led to a revelation of a possible huge deposit of crude oil in the area.
The borehole is one of the seven motorised boreholes sponsored by Chief Chukwunonso Udeonwe to each of the seven villages in Ogbaku community in Awgu Council area.
Hotmedia.ng gathered that the water became unusable as it was contaminated by an oil like substance which raised caused palpable fear in the community.
Following the development, one Chief Solomon Ugochukwu Egbo through EMCO OIL FIELD SERVICES took the sample of the substance from the borehole for a laboratory test to ascertain the constituent of the water which is meant for public consumption.
The test which was conducted by Geospectra Engineering Services and Consultants Limited, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, confirmed that there’s crude oil around the Odume area of the the community that contaminated the borehole.
“The lab analysis shows that there is a trace of crude oil around the borehole, hence the water is contaminated and not good for drinking. But further investigation/tests will be required l to ascertain the level of contamination and the accompanying consequences, Chief Solomon Egbo said while commenting on the result.
In his reaction to the development, Ezinna Engr Jonathan Chukwudi Ene, the president general of OGBAKU GENERAL ASSEMBLY, thanked God immensely for his love and cares for Ogbaku kingdom and equally thanked Chief Solomon Egbo for his swift effort to finding the constituents of the water borehole in Odume village.
“I am equally with the sample of the fluid and has been negotiating with the laboratory consultant to Shell Energy Nigeria/Shell Nigerian Gas Company to carry out a test of the specimen. When I saw the post on the test carried out by EMCO OIL FIELD SERVICES my hope and interest increased.
“Although, I have been reading their analysis tactfully to really speak based on my experience in oil and gas processes, I will wait for my own test to come out for more confirmation of the constituents of the water borehole in Odume village.

“I want to remind us that science and engineering technology believe in series of test of materials before proclamation of the facts. I am not trying to say that Geospectra laboratory did not perform good and quality test I will love to match theirs with Prime Resources laboratory; consultant to SPDC which I am negotiating with.
“Moreso, after the laboratory tests the next step will be geological survey which will prove the investment profitability. I will stop here while we continue with our findings.”
