Flooding: Many Feared Dead As Catholic Church Collapses During Worship In Anambra

There are fears that many Catholic faithful who went to church this morning at Madonna Catholic Church in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State have died as the building collapsed during service.

The church, located at Iyiowa Odekpe had given in due to the heavy flooding that has swallowed many parts of the community.

Eyewitnesses say more buildings are on the verge of collapse as efforts are on by community residents to rescue those alive and evacuate the dead.

Many people are feared to have died following the collapse of Madonna Catholic Church building in Iyiowa, Odekpe Community, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State on Sunday morning.

The collapse of the church isn’t unconnected to the heavy flooding that has taken over many parts of Anambra State which had swallowef many communities.

As at the time of this report, the number of casualties can’t be ascertained but residents are making efforts to rescue as many as possible.

This is coming barely 24 hours after an engine boat carrying about 85 passengers capsized at Umunnankwo Community of the same Ogbaru Local Government Area, with many reportedly dead.
