As part of the processes towards the 2023 general elections, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Abia State on Tuesday May 24, 2022, conducted primaries for its House of Assembly aspirants from the 24 state constituencies of Abia state.
The primaries, which were conducted under the strict supervision of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as well as good turn out of Party delegates and members were hitch-free.

In his remarks, Abia State Chairman of SDP, Elder Edward Ezenwoke said the step towards taking over the state by the party has just begun.
He thanked INEC team led by Mr Morris Urakpa and the SDP’s returning officer for the Abia State house of Assembly primaries for their patience, adding that their presence shows that the SDP is on the right track.
The Abia State Chairman of SDP further disclosed that the candidates who emerged through affirmative votes by the delegates, stressing that the conduct was done in strict compliance with the electoral laws and the constitution of the party.

Speaking with our reporter, candidate for Aba North State Constituency, Dr Lucky James expressed happiness that his dream of running for the Assembly seat has been realized and vision plan to reposition Abia State for effective democratic system has started.
He expressed confidence that the SDP is the party of choice for social justice, adding that it is the turn of his block in Aba North LGA to produce the next House member. Dr Lucky James said he will emerge as the next House of Assembly members for Aba North state Constituency.
In his reaction, INEC personnel led by Mr Morris Urakpas aid said the excise was peaceful, free and fair. Unbehalf of INEC monitoring crew, Mr Urakpa praised the Elder Edward Ezenwoke’s leadership of the party in Abia, stating that SDP Abia State House of Assembly primaries were conducted in strict compliance with the electoral laws and guidelines.
