Bilateral Relation: Nigeria And India To Collaborate On Public Service Improvement

Heads of Both Countries’ Public Services Meet in N’Delhi, India. Highlights include Draft MOU to be Signed Soon on Training, Capacity Building, Exchange Programme for Senior Officers and other Areas of Collaboration._

Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, and that of the Common Services Office, Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation,Mr Idris Ibrahim Yusuf, alongside Ambassador Ahmed Sule, High Commissioner of Nigeria to India, met with the Chairman, Indian Union Public Service Commission,Prof.Pradeep Kumar Joshi, alongside the Commissioners and Joint Union Secretaries of the Commission in New Delhi, India,Wednesday,where they had useful discussions on the improvement and development of the Public Services of both Nigeria and India.

At the meeting, the senior Government officials of the two countries discussed areas of collaboration between their two Public Services, particularly issues on capacity building/ Training , Exchange Programmes by senior officers, use of ICT and conducting Computer Based Tests for officers during recruitment and promotion examinations.

Dr. Yemi-Esan and Prof.Joshi agreed that exchange of experiences and programmes by senior officers would be mutually beneficial to the two countries and reiterated the importance they attached to matters pertaining capacity building, recruitment of competent personnel into the Service, conduct of promotion examinations as well as performance management systems.

In this context, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and the Chairman of the India Union Public Service Commission agreed that, to enhance broad- based cooperation, an MoU should be finalized and signed within the next few months. A draft copy of the MOU was presented for perusal and would be made available to Nigeria through the relevant diplomatic channels for consideration and signing.

The Nigerian delegation in a photo session with the Chairman,India Union Public Service Commission,Prof. Joshi,the Commissioners and Joint Union Secretaries of the Commission in New Delhi,India, on Wednesday,March 16,2022,when the Nigerian delegation led by Dr.Folasade Yemi-Esan,Head of the Civil Service of the Federation,paid a working visit on the latter.

The occasion provided an opportunity for the leadership of the two Public Services to exchange views in other topical interests on service improvement and development.

Dr. Yemi-Esan again expressed her gratitude to the Chairman of the Indian Union Public Service Commission and the Commissioners for the hospitality and warm reception accorded her delegation. She in turn extended an invitation to the Chairman to pay a similar visit to Nigeria at a mutually convenient date.

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and her delegation were in India to monitor/supervise the ongoing IPPIS Human Resource Physical Verification Exercise being conducted by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation for the Heads of Mission and Officers in the Asia Region.
