WAANSA Patron Commends Abuja School Over Girl-Child, Education Devt.

The patron of West African Action Network on Small Arms (WAANSA, Maj.-Gen. John Gbor (retd.), hails the management of Premiere Academy Abuja for its commitment to the development of the girl-child as well as that of education in the country.

He gave the commendation Thursday when he led a delegation of WAANSA to the school.

He noted that “according to Nelson Mandela, education is the most powerful weapon which humanity can use to change the world; it is a great vehicle for equality and opportunities.”

“This delegation is here to appreciate the commitment of your college to the development of the girl-child and education in Nigeria.

“It has become imperative for our policy makers to integrate strategies in our education curriculum that can realise qualitative education development in line with global best practices. Tree-planting is one of those strategic initiatives,” he said.

According to him, “harmful carbon dioxide contributes to climate change which is one of the current environmental challenges that our world is facing today.”

“I appreciate the wisdom and commitment of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to encourage Nigerians to plant trees. I am aware that the Minister of State for FCT has kick-started the tree- planting here at Premiere Academy. But I am also here in support of the good environmental policy of the federal government. At this juncture, I passionately appeal to Mr. President to direct all school management authorities to award compulsory 20 per cent continuous assessment marks to students coming back to school with evidence of tree-planting in their local communities.

“I am optimistic that with the active integration and participation of the younger generation in execution of good government policies, Nigeria stands a better chance to continue to be a great nation and sustain our relevance in global affairs.”
