The Northeast Vanguard group stated that it was it’s unwavering patriotic zeal that the notice for Nigerians to know, the sorry state of Northeast Development Commission has reached, as a result of financial recklessness and practice of nepotism. That has become a tradition in the commission which has become a norm in their operation.

It is of note, since the creation of the commission in 2018 instead of boosting the economic activities of the region. By providing pipe borne waters, massive infrastructure, building and construction of hospitals, re-building of schools, construction and r-construction of roads, and among others which are the core mandate and objectives of the commission to rebuild the region from destruction caused by insurgency.
Rather, the achievements so far, the commission has recorded are needless issues that bother on personal aggrandizement and nepotism. One can re-call that similar investigation has been done earlier by federal House of Representatives on the alleged misappropriation of funds by the management of the commission.

The group praised the move and the action of the Economic Finance and Crime Commission, EFCC and Independent Corrupt Practices and other related matters Commission, ICPC. The Vanguard group tag needed Probe a welcome development and over due measure to ensure accountability and transparency on the operation of the Commission
The investigation and probe is on the top management staff NEDC, the Managing Director and other top directors. The allegations is bothering on arbitrary and reckless spending of the commission funds.
Some of the allegations are stupendous and unauthorized salaries being received by managing Director, awarding of contracts and procurement without the due process and procedures of the board approvement, squandering of over N5 billion meant for construction of housing estate in the region. Diverting another N5 billion meant for construction of staff quarters and the commission Headquarters in Maiduguri.
Other allagations are diverting funds meant for re-building of schools, hospitals, projects like computer and ICT centers, re-constructions and re-building of structures, roads in the region and many more.

The Northeast Vanguard for good governance uses this medium to call for urgent steps to remove the Managing Director of Northeast Development Commission, Mohammed Goni Alkali.
The group further make a demand for thorough investigation and prosecution of the Managing Director. Stressing that except the step is taken, the commission will be in imminent collapse. The group warned that failure to do so, will leave them with no option than to resort to other means of having their grievances taken seriously.
