Prof. Kingsley Moghalu
Kingsley Moghalu is the President and CEO of Sogato Strategies LLC, a global investment advisory firm. Dr. Moghalu is also the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Special Envoy on Post-Covid Development Finance for Africa.
He is a member of the Advisory Council of the London-based Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum (OMFIF), an independent forum of central banks, sovereign wealth funds, and global private sector institutional investors.
Dr. Moghalu was Professor of Practice in International Business and Public Policy at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University from 2015-2017 and is currently a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at The Fletcher School’s Council on Emerging Market Enterprises.
He previously served as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria from 2009-2014, leading the implementation of extensive reforms that stabilized the Nigerian banking system after the global financial crisis.
He also led reforms in the Nigerian payments system including the development and introduction of the unique identifier Bank Verification Number (BVN), the development finance and financial inclusion roles of the CBN, and played a key role in establishing the framework for the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority, Nigeria’s sovereign wealth fund.
Kingsley Moghalu was a member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the CBN, and also served as Chairman of the Boards of Directors of the Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM) and Financial Institutions Training Centre (FITC), and a member of the Boards of Directors of the CBN, Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and the Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia-based global Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI).
He was a member of the President of Nigeria’s Economic Management Team.
Dr. Moghalu has served on other high level international appointments in the United Nations including as a member of the Intergovernmental Expert Group on Financing for Development at the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD ) in Geneva, and as a member of the High Level Redesign Panel on the United Nations Internal Justice System in New York. He also worked for the UN for 17 years in strategic planning, legal and external affairs roles at duty stations at the UN Headquarters in New York and in Cambodia, Croatia, Tanzania, and Switzerland, rising to the highest career rank of Director.
Kingsley Moghalu obtained his Ph.D. at the London School of Economics, an M.A. from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and the LL.B. from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and received executive education at Harvard Business School, Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Institute.
He is the author of several books including the critically acclaimed Emerging Africa: How the Global Economy’s Last Frontier Can Prosper and Matter, and his global opinion commentary has been published in the Financial Times, Washington Post, USA Today, International Herald Tribune, YaleGlobal, and South China Morning Post. He is a distinguished international keynote speaker at global policy and professional forums and has been frequently interviewed on the global macroeconomy and on international politics by CNN Television, BBC World TV, and Bloomberg Television.
Dr. Moghalu is the Founder of the Isaac Moghalu Foundation, a philanthropy that supports access to education and skills for underprivileged youth and women in rural Nigeria. He was decorated with the Nigerian national honor of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), a Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) Honoris Causa by Anambra State University and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (FCIB).
